I’m going to share a new possible explanation to the mysterious ‘cocaine mummies’ of ancient Egypt:
📍Years ago, scientists were mystified when they discovered traces of Cocaine & Nicotine in Egyptian mummies, as both these substances originate from plants in the Americas.
📍This led many to speculate that this was evidence of transoceanic sea-travel and cross-cultural contact, which was not thought to be possible in ancient times.
📍However, it was later speculated that the traces of cocaine & nicotine could simply be cross-contamination from ‘doped-up’ Archaeologists using these substances.
📍Here’s my idea 💡
We now know that the Sahara was a lush green tropical oasis as recently as ~4,500yrs ago.
We also know that Africa and South America were once connected.
Is it possible that the Tobacco & Coca plants also existed in the Green Sahara?
